What to Bring on an Alaska Fishing Vacation

Along with bringing a spirit for adventure, you will want to consider bringing the following to make your Alaska salmon fishing vacation enjoyable:

  • Picture ID for fishing license
  • Rain Gear
  • Boots, waders
  • Gloves
  • Long underwear
  • Bug repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Rugged outdoor wear
  • Jacket
  • Camera
  • Personal care items
  • Medications

The mornings and evening hours can get cool, it is usually a good idea to dress in layers, you can always take something off as it warms in the afternoon and put it back on as it cools. Good quality rain gear such as a gore tex two piece rain suit is highly recommended because it is light weight and doubles as a great windbreaker. You never know when it may rain, so be prepared. Good foot gear is also essential to keeping your feet dry on a rainy day. A good mix of synthetic fabrics as well as natural fabrics will help keep you comfortable in any weather scenario. Fly fisherman may want to consider light neoprene.

Nonresident anglers under the age of 16 do not need a king salmon tag.

For your convenience you may purchase an Alaska Fishing License from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game online and then print it out using your printer.
